Dear Trade and Tourism Thailand,

Thank you for your letter dated 16 June 2026 and for your constructive response to our concerns regarding the recent misinformation campaign affecting Australia–Thailand relations.

​

We appreciate your acknowledgement of the issue and your reaffirmation of the longstanding friendship and cooperation between our two countries.

We are encouraged by your willingness to work collaboratively to address the challenges posed by misinformation and to support the continued strength of our tourism, education, and trade sectors.

​

The Australian Trade and Tourism Diplomacy Taskforce is pleased to accept your invitation to meet on Friday, 19 June 2026.

​

We believe this meeting presents an important opportunity to develop a coordinated response that restores public confidence and reinforces the positive relationship enjoyed by both nations.

​

To facilitate productive discussions, we propose that the meeting focus on the following areas:

• Joint strategies to address misinformation and improve public awareness;

• Opportunities for collaborative tourism promotion initiatives;

• Measures to support confidence among Thai students, workers, and visitors considering travel to Australia;

• Approaches to strengthening bilateral trade and reducing the impacts of consumer boycotts; and

• Potential areas for ongoing cooperation between Australian and Thai stakeholders.
   

As a gesture of goodwill and partnership, ATTDT is currently developing a public diplomacy initiative titled Australia-Thailand: Beyond the Headlines, which aims to promote accurate information, strengthen people-to-people connections, and highlight the mutual benefits of our tourism, education, and trade relationship. We look forward to discussing opportunities for collaboration on this initiative during our meeting.

Australia remains committed to fostering an open, inclusive, and welcoming environment for Thai visitors, students, workers, and businesses. We are confident that through continued dialogue and cooperation, our countries can effectively address the current situation and emerge with an even stronger partnership.
