Dear Trade and Tourism Thailand,

 

It has come to our attention of a false report and subsequent social media campaign circulating in Thailand fabricating claims of Australia becoming increasingly polluted as well as an increase of intolerance against Thai international students undergoing study in Australia.

 

Our taskforce is currently investigating the source of this report and what has led to its release. The Australian government formally apologises to any Thai nationals who may have experienced discrimination claimed in this report.

 

As a result of this boycott in Thailand, Australia has been negatively affected as a tourist destination as well as our exported goods and services.

 

Furthermore, in response to the boycott in Thailand the Australian people have responded to the false report with their own boycott. The Australian government is committed to discouraging this boycott and to prevent negative effects reverberating on Thai tourism and commerce.

 

Australia is incredibly proud of the multicultural society we have built. The Australian government is committed to ensuring tourists, workers and international students from Thailand are welcomed to Australia. Continued status quo regarding our tourism as well as export industry are in the interest of both our governments.

 

The Australian government is committed to maintaining prosperous relations with the Thai government people. We are seeking a formal meeting to jointly address this developing issue and outline how to restore our tourism, education and exports industries for prosperity in the interest of both nations.
